Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming

Image
I was recently reminded of the climate debate when seeing a trailer for Al Gore’s sequel to his alarmist climate movie, and shouts in the theater both against & for. We continue to hear that “97 percent of scientists agree” on the causes & consequences of climate change -- that recent and projected climate change is significantly man-made and dangerous.  Many or most uninformed people probably take these loud voices at face value, without digging deeper as to the validity of that figure, and in the face of vague statements, asking where exactly consensus lies.  And assume they must either agree with the worst case projections and proscribed policies or be branded science deniers.  “…the climate science establishment has become intolerant to disagreement and debate, and is attempting to marginalize and de-legitimize dissent as corrupt or ignorant.”  This has the intended result of "herding" -- among the general public, but also to some extent among...

3 for Romney, the Problem w. Santorum & the Final Debate

Image
In this post: recent (AZ, MI & WY) primaries, Super Tuesday & the big picture road ahead, strategic voting tactics, another case against Santorum, the last (20th) debate, Andrew Breitbart’s untimely death, and more inept “leadership” by Obama. Recent primary results: Arizona: Mitt 47%, Rick 38% Michigan: Mitt 41%, Rick 38% Wyoming: Mitt 39%, Rick 32% From the Romney campaign: “The exit polls again showed that Mitt's support is wide reaching by winning among men, women, Catholics, Republicans, and those families most impacted by the economy in both states. “The bottom line is that Mitt is continuing to build his delegate count and has now won 40% of all votes cast in the GOP contests. It is getting increasingly harder to see a path to the nomination for any of his rivals.” Regarding Michigan , Mitt came from 15 points behind a couple weeks before to win. And his win would have been even larger if not for the participation of some 10,000 Democrats (9% of those who voted) in ...

Polls, Bengazi-gate, Romney's 47%, Harry Reid & DNC Part 2

Image
In this post: 1. Polls 2. “The 47%” 3.  “Bengazi-gate” & “Bumps in the Road” 4. Harry Reid & “the Face of Mormonism” 5. DNC Part 2 Polls While we do need to keep working on the election, I’ve read a number of articles about how biased (oversampling Democrats) some of the recent polling (& media) is, how the undecided historically always break for the non-incumbent, how Romney's continuing to grow his lead over Obama among middle-class & Catholics -- both decisive demographics.  Sept. 23 – one poll commentator said that “the only area Romney is beating Obama is the economy & deficit.”  Isn’t that only the most important issue before us (“it’s the economy, stupid”)? For the first time this week (Sept. 28), Romney is now polling higher than Obama on handling foreign affairs.  And enthusiasm among Obama's 2008 supporters is waning.  So we don't need to be overly distraught.  The Romney campaign internal polling shows ...
