The 2014 Election
It was a wave! A 2-peat after the 2010 midterms. The GOP picked up at least 8 Senate seats for a solid majority, and possibly more with the Louisiana runoff. Time to celebrate the end of Reid's 6-year Senate reign, and the end of Congressional gridlock! Also, the GOP picked up 6 governorships (more presidential options), for a solid 2/3 of states -- including some fairly blue states -- good riddance to Crist in Florida.  And the House of Representatives party map turned overwhelmingly red (see below).  The victories would have been even greater if not for the sapping of GOP votes by the Libertarian candidates (or “Losertarian” as Michael Medved says).

This article shows the changes in the House of Representatives from 2008 to 2014 -- “This Was How America Looked After Obama Was Elected in 2008…”  (Nov. 5, 2014 10:00pm Oliver Darcy
“Tuesday’s midterm elections gave way to the largest Republican majority in the House of Representatives since World War II, dramatically shifting the country away from the Democratic wave President Barack Obama rode into office.

Blue is clearly the fringe – literally and politically.

SHELLACKING, THE SEQUEL [ November 8, 2014 edition of National Journal ]

Tuesday's rout again revealed the limits of the modern Democratic coalition.

Ronald Brownstein
“Tuesday's resounding Republican sweep closely followed the script of the GOP's landslide in 2010, and it exposed perhaps even more deeply the limits of the modern Democratic coalition—while underscoring the party's persistent inability to convince enough whites that they will benefit from activist government.
“From many angles, Tuesday's results tracked the 2010 outcome. …Republicans… added more Senate seats (likely nine, awaiting final outcomes in Alaska, Louisiana, and Virginia). As in 2010, when Republicans won governorships in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—states in the "blue wall" that have voted Democratic in at least the past six presidential elections—the GOP on Tuesday seized chief-executive positions in even deeper-blue Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
“Even if Republicans in 2016 match Tuesday's dominant three-fifths showing among whites, they will almost certainly lose the White House if they can't also narrow the Democrats' traditional presidential-year edge with minorities—who could make up 30 percent of the electorate by then.
“This week's results left Democrats facing tougher immediate questions. But each party's core dilemma remains unresolved: Democrats again have shown they cannot win enough whites to consistently hold Congress, while Republicans still have to prove they can attract enough minorities to win the White House.  [more at http://www.nationaljournal.com/political-connections/shellacking-the-sequel-20141107]
The Collapse of Obamaism
Krauthammer called it the collapse of Obamaism -- yes, it was a referendum on his policies, It places the GOP in position for 2016 -- but they must show they can govern. As Cruz said, they must earn trust. I've heard some good legislative plans put forward, but the new majority leaders are not yet showing much backbone or will to deliver on their campaign promises.

Now it is Obama who is clearly obstructionist if he overuses his veto power, and he may be overridden. And his executive overreach reigned in. In any case, he is now a truly lame duck, and rightly so with his record and approval rates. Perhaps he will finally, of necessity, learn to work with Congress. Now we begin to restore America back to greatness after these long years of malaise & failed promises. It's been a long time coming, and there's a lot of work to do.

Obama had said going into the election that while he was not on the ballot, his policies were.  So yes, it was a referendum.  And a clear reflection on the popular rejection of Obamacare, and his threatened executive overreach on immigration.  It was also a clear rejection of the thread worn “war on women,” that got Udall nowhere in Colorado, and on the desperate and tired race-baiting that was also all too prevalent and outrageous in the more contested races.  And the nonsense issues like the Redskins name.  The Dems lost in very blue states he & Hillary campaigned in (Illinois, Massachusetts,…)
Obama said he “got it,” but he said that the last time (2010), and just how well did he get that, or demonstrate that he did?  He also said he heard the 1/3 of voters who voted, and also heard the 2/3 that didn’t vote.  Unclear what he clairvoyantly channeled (not difficult for one who believes he walks on water) from the 2/3 who didn’t vote.  Was he trying to downplay the Republican victory by claiming that there’s a majority out there who support his policies who didn’t vote but whose opinions need to be used in justifying his policies?  Or (doubtful) simply & humbly acknowledging that many of his former supporters no longer agree or believe in him or his policies, or just didn’t feel strongly enough to get out & vote?  Or that the electorate in general is fed up with Washington in general (& according to him, especially with the gridlock caused by those wascawy Wepubwicans) & too disgusted or disinterested or unempowered to vote?  Or that, as he likes to claim when encountering setbacks, that he just didn’t do a good enough job at communicating and making the case for what he unwaveringly believes is beyond question and beyond compromise?

The rats continue to jump ship on Obama, just as many of the Democrat candidates distancing themselves from him.  Michael Moore gave a stinging criticism of Obama, saying he’ll only be remembered as the first Black president – nothing more.

Obama said he’ll work every minute the next 2 years.  Wow, I guess that means he’s going to sacrifice golf!  And fundraising & campaigning?!  He only met w. Senate minority leader McConnell twice in the last 6 years – that’s his idea of bipartisanship, which he often touts, apparently.

In Obama’s harmful ‘gifts’ to the nation and the Democrats

“Barack Obama is a gifted politician. But a president is judged by the gifts he leaves behind. Following his fourth national election as party leader, Democrats are taking stock of what they have received.

“For Obama, there have been two convincing presidential victories; for the Democratic Party, electoral ruin at every other level. On Tuesday (assuming the most likely final outcome), the largest Democratic Senate losses since 1980. The ranks of moderate Democrats — including Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, Kay Hagan and (probably) Mary Landrieu — decimated. During Obama’s presidency, the loss of nearly 70 House seats, producing the largest Republican majority since 1931. The near-extinction of the Democratic Party in the South, including in Arkansas and Tennessee, which provided the party’s national ticket in 1992 and 1996. Full Republican control of 29 state legislatures, the highest total since the 1920s, and Republican governors in 32 states, including Massachusetts, Illinois and Maryland .

“Obama’s particular form of political magic has worked only for Obama himself.  [In keeping with his narcissistic nature.  "Pat" Caddell, public opinion pollster, a political film consultant & advisor to several Democrat presidential contenders, a week or two ago called Obama a “raging narcissist” who must be stopped.]

“His post-election news conference displayed a series of character traits that have become hardened and exaggerated under the pressure of defeat. His self-confidence has slipped into denial — imagining the election as a generalized anti-incumbent tantrum rather than a reaction to the performance of his administration. His moral certitude has turned into the graceless dismissal of opposition, who cannot be conceded anything more than a “good night.” His pride of accomplishment has become a conviction that Americans are just insufficiently grateful for the “real progress” of the past six years.

“There is apparently no possible electoral outcome that could shake these beliefs. And they seem rooted in a certain view of the electorate.  Obama clearly regards the “two-thirds of voters who chose not to participate in the process yesterday” as a more favorable audience than the discontented third who turned out. It is a view of politics that comes by way of William Butler Yeats: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst/ Are full of passionate intensity.”

“This mind-set is among the most damaging gifts of the president to his party. Obama has reinforced a particularly simplistic view of the “coalition of the ascendant” among Democratic “elites. …..

“To be a national party, Democrats need to contend for rural and small-town voters, for older voters, for working-class white voters, for white Catholics, even for suburban evangelicals. [This is the flip side of the argument that the GOP is dead or needs to court minorities]…..

He is a leader intent on shaping events, while almost entirely (on recent evidence) unshaped by them. Some will applaud.
But it is impossible to make the case that Obama has been an inclusive or unifying leader. He has left his party more ideologically and geographically uniform. He has left a riven society and political culture. And these should also be counted as Obama’s gifts.

I note that in many places the under-30 vote shifted by about 10 percentage points towards the Republicans, and there were also some gains among minorities.
The Executive Immigration Action
Obama said that he “got it,” but if he got the message that he should have gotten, he very quickly forgot it, and immediately set out to “poison the well” (Boehner) and “wave a red flag in front of a bull” (McConnell) by promising to take unilateral executive action on immigration before the new congress meets.  There have been many (over 2 dozen) video clips of Obama on Fox saying earlier in his administration that not only did he not have the legal authority to enact such an amnesty, but that it would be the wrong thing to do because of the effects.  And so, after years of having both houses of Congress and doing nothing on immigration, suddenly it can’t wait a few weeks.  Well, once again he cannot be trusted to keep his word, or to keep his oath to uphold the constitution.  He’d said when the Dems won that “elections have consequences,” but of course that’s only true when Dems win.  Same with compromise – it only goes in the direction of the Dems.

Obama says that for those who question his wisdom or authority to do this he has one answer – “pass a bill” [like the one the Senate wanted to ram through].  That doesn’t address his authority or wisdom – it dodges both.  He cites only his patience – “waited long enough” – the justification of every tin-horn dictator who wants his way.  He does speak of “higher purpose,” and cite scripture at one point for moral authority – that we “shall not oppress the stranger.”  Yes, he and Pelosi, the great religious experts and authorities.  Of course it’s targeted at religious conservatives, but what about the Left’s beloved separation of church & state?  Of course religion teaches us to obey laws, and that justice also must be served – not only mercy.  And what he calls “oppression” is what they chose to come here and live and earn much more than back home, and live at a higher standard than their native Mexico.

And what about injustices caused for the legal residents and those working legally to become residents, or for the many unemployed citizens who also have families to feed and keep together?  And if compassion and fairness are the standards, why cut it off at 5 million rather than all?  No, he has neither the constitutional authority (this is going to court – process matters), nor the moral, nor the expressed will of the people (clearly expressed in the election & polls – this being one of his earlier-stated issues on the ballot) – only his own will.

He says he wants to work with both parties on this – like he has in the totally partisan Obamacare, or when he’s met twice in 6 yrs. w. the Speaker of the House?  He says don’t let disagreement on this single issue be a deal-breaker on every issue – impugning the character or motives of the GOP (something he also hypocritically says we shouldn’t do to each other -- projection) – that disagreement on other issues is out of spite and linked to this.  He taunts the GOP about shutting down the government, but if the GOP funds all but this provision, and he rejects it, then HE is the one shutting down the government.

He speaks of immigration enabling us to “remake ourselves as we choose.” More like the “transformation” that he chooses (is that his “higher purpose?”) – the non-skilled workers that this really largely benefits (not the few educated, entrepreneurial that he focuses on) of course would tend to bolster the Democrat base, benefitting most from the entitlements they want to buy their votes with.  He speaks of those who want to embrace responsibility – well, let them come here legally – responsibly.  He speaks of the families being torn apart – no, they can all go back as whole families and get in line.  And what of the many millions in his own Black community who suffer unemployment, whose families have been torn apart by the welfare subsidization of single-parenthood, and the ensuing crime?  Shouldn’t that be a higher priority and responsibility?  Here’s a scripture applying perhaps to both that issue and the domestic unemployment:  ““But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, ….” (1 Tim. 5:8)

He complains that a comprehensive immigration bill that passed the Democrat Senate wouldn’t be taken up by the House.  But there have been 300 House bills that Harry Reid wouldn’t take up in the Senate.  And practically, how on earth will an illegal who’s been “living in the shadows” be able to prove he’s been here at least 5 years?  And if they’re not subject to deportation if they can’t prove it, what’s to deter those here less than 5 years, or those still coming illegally, from claiming they’ve been here 5 years?  Or from claiming children that aren’t theirs as “anchor babies?”  He speaks of impracticalities of deporting all of them – what about the impracticality of this law?  He appeals to all of us with immigrant ancestry, that we “must uphold the tradition and legacy” – I agree – and that tradition and legacy is legal immigration.

Jonathan Gruber, MIT economist & key advisor to the Obama administration in crafting & selling Obamacare (called by many the architect of Obamacare), has been seen on several videotaped talks to elitist colleagues calling Americans stupid for passing Obamacare – for not knowing enough about economics to know that they wouldn’t get something for free (take money from the wealthy to give to the poor).  He said that the “lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” and that it was crafted obtusely to deceive the CBO into not calling it a tax – and then of course the only way it survived the Supreme Court was to interpret it as a tax.

This is a clear case of projection.  The stupid one is the one who thought he could go on and on in public forums bragging about this without getting caught and incurring the wrath of America.  And of course it wasn’t the American public who went along with it – either before or especially after it passed – it is now more unpopular than ever, as evidenced in the recent midterm elections.  We were wise to the hollow promises of lower premiums for all, better service, keeping your doctor and all, and we tried to protest.  It was the stupid Democrat congress who was gullibly duped (“we have to pass the bill to see what’s in it”) or, as Gruber, knowingly went along with the deceit – it was 100% Democrats and no Republicans who voted for it.  It is they who are the ones Gruber speaks of (and the gullible and/or greedy Democrat public that stood to benefit from wealth distribution, or is ideologically Left and believes in that, and, as Gruber, is willing to sacrifice truth & transparency – the ends justifies the means).

In “Gruber and Obama’s Big Lie (http://www.nationalreview.com/article/393138/gruber-and-obamas-big-lie-jonah-goldberg), Jonah Goldberg describes Obama’s complicity in this.  “No, Mr. President, Democrats didn’t win the health-care debate before Obamacare’s passage…. the biggest lie is the one Obama left unsaid in Brisbane. He implied that he won the debate. He didn’t. He won the fight in Congress — by brute partisan force. But the majority of the American people watching this farcical debate were never convinced by Obama’s claims.  He points out Obama’s now typical modus operandi of denying any significant association with Gruber or input from him (e.g., Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers,…), despite him earlier citing him for major input on the bill, White House records showing long session(s) with him, and $400,000 payment to him for his services.

As stated, the lies of Obamacare have long been known to anyone who cared to know, and have become increasingly undeniable to anyone not totally drinking the progressive Kool-Aid, as the law has been implemented, and as deceitful Leftist tactics like Gruber’s become public.  But this is merely the confluence of Leftism & Chicago politics – the worst of both worlds.  Obama is a slick snake oil salesman, but he has his hench-men, Alinsky-ites and all.  And as D’Souza clearly proves in “America,” Hilary Clinton is a fellow Alinsky-ite who also subscribes to the “Rules for Radicals” of Saul Alinsky.  Alinsky admittedly got many of his tactics from the mob bosses, and bragged of his ability to do the shake-down, by making the wealthier feel guilty.  It’s Chicago politics as usual in this White House.  Sheryl Attkisson, author of “Stonewalled,” and a former CBS reporter who dared question administration policies, was spied on and hacked by someone in a government agency using government spyware.  Not the first time intimidation tactics have been used against the press (e.g., Fox News).  When will we say enough is enough?

Race Peddlers & Opportunists at it Again

In announcing the grand jury decision of no cause for trial in the Michael Brown Ferguson, Missouri case, the prosecutor very clearly and eloquently gave out the facts that refuted the various myths promulgated in the media and activist community.  And he criticized the irresponsible media for stoking violence.  One reporter’s question in the news conference was a perfect example: “What does what you’ve said say to those who say too many Blacks have been shot by officers with impunity?”  He responded, “It speaks better than your remark – it is not with impunity – the justice system works.”

The Congressional Black Caucus called it “a slap in the face to all Americans.”  And they proceeded on the floor of Congress, one by one, to put their hands up and say “don’t shoot,” just as many of the protesters do – promoting one of the myths, as Brown didn’t put his hands up or say “don’t shoot” – rather he charged the police officer after already having struck him and wrestled for his gun.  He was not shot in the back, but as he charged the officer.  This is just as irresponsible as the media, and pres. Obama referring to the shooting while speaking at the U.N., and referring to it as a problem in America, and giving legitimacy to the fabricated charges of racism.  And even more irresponsible are the race peddlers who opportunistically have jumped in and stoked the flames – Sharpton, Farrakhan, Jackson – all promoting the “no justice, no peace” theme, or worse, speaking of killing those who kill “them.”  This of course furthers their agendas and financial support, and further divides this country ("divide & conquer" or transform?), which is probably the most racially diverse yet tolerant on earth.  And the administration further gave legitimacy to all this by sending several representatives to Brown’s funeral.  To which funerals of police officers killed in the line of duty have they sent representatives?  Or soldiers killed in wars?  Or which of them merit comments in press statements?

Another myth was that Brown was a “gentle giant.”  Yes, we saw the video showing how gently he strong-armed the store clerk he robbed, and then assaulted the police officer, who feared for his life.  Ben Shapiro sarcastically called him “Saint Michael of the Gentle Gianthood.”  And when any of this or the facts of the case from the grand jury inquiry are brought up, the race peddlers and activists accuse us of improperly attacking his character.  Perhaps if they and his family were all so concerned about his character and reputation, they would have much earlier shown more concern for the path he was on, and character he was developing and manifesting.  No, to them facts and truth don’t matter – it’s purely emotional and their mind was made up from the start that it was racially motivated, despite there being absolutely no evidence to that effect.  The officer acted according to standard procedures, and said he would do the same no matter what the race.  And they continued to believe the myths and lies about him being shot in the back, etc.

They don’t really want justice, but rather a separate standard of justice, or no justice at all – complete impunity for their actions.  And this because of past racial prejudice or injustices.  At least pres. Obama did say we are a nation built on the rule of law, and we need to accept it – unless of course you’re president and don’t need to abide by the constitution.  But Obama gives legitimacy to Sharpton by his many meetings with him, and many in the Black community clearly put more credence in Sharpton’s (& Jackson’s, Farrakhan’s) words than Obama’s.  Of course many of the rioters & looters were opportunists of another kind.  Obama said he joined the family in asking protesters to be peaceful.  But the step-father was seen clearly on video after the finding was announced yelling repeatedly to the crowd “burn this b - - - - down!,” referring to the town of Ferguson.  Which they proceeded to do.  And many innocent Black and other merchants suffered the consequences.

No, we’re tired of the racially divisive Black leaders’ tactics, and the legitimacy some Blacks feel to riot, burn and kill when they disagree with a verdict.  We need to stop patronizing and legitimizing them.  They need to grow up, be responsible, and, as president Obama said, accept the American justice system as far better than any other, and certainly than vigilantism.  They only hurt their own true interests (not the same as the race-peddlers’ political cause) in pursuing the latter.

Obama gave a slight acknowledgement of the great racial progress in this nation, but seemed to legitimize the racial animus and distrust of Blacks, and place blame for it on the police who need the training and repentance – not at all the Black community (or their “leaders.”).  Charles Barkley courageously said that it’s a ridiculous charge that cops are out to kill black men.  He said that cops keep order and protect many lives (in peril of their own) in what would otherwise be a Wild West environment in the ghettos.  Rudy Giuliani (former mayor of New York City) pointed out that his increased policing & stop & frisk policies, while unpopular in some of the black community, dramatically cut crime and death rates.

Black activists complain of the much higher incarceration rates among blacks, but those rates merely follow the higher crime and violence rates among blacks.  And they don’t want to address the causes of that – the death of the Black family.  No, they’d rather attack someone like Bill Cosby because he speaks out about that.  And if they are so concerned about Black lives, why focus so much on the very few police shootings (rarely questionable) and somehow blame Whites/police/conservatives for that, and then sweep under the rug or even encourage the millions of Black abortions, which White conservatives are very outspoken against?

Now there’s the dismissal of the case in NYC of Eric Gardner – another “gentle giant” who was taken down by 5 police officers for resisting arrest.  Here the police procedure was possibly a bit more unclear as to legitimacy, although it undoubtedly would not have been fatal if not for Gardner’s obesity and other health problems.  And wouldn’t have happened in the first place if not resisting arrest.  Here again, as with Rodney King, Michael Brown and so many others, they resist arrest.  Somehow they feel above the law, and disrespectful of it.  They need to learn respect, or at least logically that it will not bode well if they resist arrest or fight back, even if they feel bigger and stronger than the police.  Ann Coulter points out another aspect of the case – the officers were enforcing the incredibly high NYC cigarette tax of $6 a pack -- Gardner was selling cigarettes on the black market.  As Ann says, “don’t stand between a liberal and his tax collection – that is how they pay for all the union benefits, social programs, etc.”  Most would agree that the use of force seemed out of proportion to the crime.  Ann’s comment might also apply to the scandalous IRS hounding of conservative PACs during the 2012 election cycle.

But once again, the race-peddlers are out in force, with protesters yelling “can’t breathe,” which Gardner said 11 times.  It is hard to do that if one truly can’t breathe.

I think part of all the attention on this is because of the Democrat loss in the election, and to divert attention from their failures  "Squirrel!"  So much for Obama's promise to heal race relations in his presidency -- they have only worsened.  It's the same with international relations.

The World Stage
Some have noted that Obama is much more deferential & respectful to, and willing to compromise with, the supreme leader/ayatollah of Iran than the opposition party in Congress, or our foreign allies.  Now we hear of a secret letter from Obama to that leader.  That sounds treacherous – like the whispered “tell Vladimir Putin I’ll have more flexibility after the election” to Medvedev.  Anxious to appease our enemies (like Neville Chamberlain did), and slight our allies (e.g., Netanyahu of Israel).  And just what great world peace and stability has all of Obama’s charisma & Nobel Prize produced?

No, the Russians continue to take more and more bites out of Ukraine – apparently they can get away with it if they do it slowly enough.  And they continue to mock us with cold war tactics.  The Iranians continue closer to the nuclear threshold.  The Chinese continue to expand their control in the South China Sea, and show disdain for our president.  ISIS continues to thrive despite pinprick airstrikes, and radical Islam continues to threaten numerous other places.  North Korea continues with its nuclear hostilities.
Now CAIR, that American apologist group for radical Islam, has been designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates.  At least someone has the courage to call a spade a spade – not this White House, who treats CAIR with great deference.
You don’t see much coverage in the media about the WMDs found in Iraq, apparently even hushed by the Pentagon (at the administration’s insistence?).  So much for the liberal mantra of “Bush lied and people died.”  But of course being liberal/progressive/Leftist means never having to say you’re sorry.  They got plenty of mileage out of that.  Nor do they acknowledge or apologize for other accusations subsequently proven unfounded (against Christy, the UVA or other frat “rapes,” etc.).  No, for them truth is not a value – the ends justifies the means.
Netanyahu’s speech at the U.N. was spot on (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKs2Y_qEKxA).  Israel is the canary in the coal mine, and we have common enemies.  Obama, on the other hand, as well as the same countries now supportive of attacking ISIS, criticized Israel for attacking Hamas.  Hamas & ISIS are branches of the same tree.  Militant Islam is another “master” ideology like Nazism’s “master race” ideology.  And it’s producing the same brutalities, genocides and expansionism.

Campus “Rape Culture”

Dennis Prager noted that the Left complains of a rape culture on campus (zero tolerance), but they’re the ones who’ve hypersexualized the environment w. infinite tolerance.  He notes how the Left is hysterical on many issues, and the GOP tries to placate them, just like a parent buying peace with a child’s tantrum.  Now the U. Virginia rape story has been shown to be bogus, after all the outcry and hype by the Left.

US Economy

Dick Morris, author of “Power Grab,” believes that Obama is intentionally socially engineering lower incomes, because that favors Democrats in the elections & dependence on the government.  Median income has dropped from $56k to $51k since he took office.  As mentioned in other posts, the food stamp rolls have also increased dramatically.  And Obama continues to tout economic success?  Truly Orwellian doublespeak.

2016

Romney is still in the news, and high in the polls among GOP 2016 potential presidential candidates.  In retrospect, in 2012 he had a triple branding hurdle – GOP & Mormon & one of the “1%.”  He’s riding on name recognition now, and having been proven right on many of the points he made against Obama in 2012, but I seriously doubt he can overcome those hurdles in another attempt.  America has been poisoned by too many prejudices to accept someone like him who is truly capable and qualified.  Fortunately, there is a goodly number of excellent GOP governors to choose from.  Hopefully not so many that we’ll have a repeat of the large candidate field and debates of 2012, and the fratricide we saw there.

Hillary is riding on her connection to Bill, and the feminist movement – not on any noteworthy accomplishments.  Hopefully America will awake to her Alinskyite ideologies exposed in D’Souza’s “America,” although they never awoke to Obama’s similar ideologies.  And her failures as Secretary of State.
