Hillary continues to expand the list of those at fault for her loss.  Someday maybe she’ll include herself.  The “angry white men” continues to resurface, long after Charles Krauthammer exposed it as a myth after the 1994 election, when it began to be a widespread term.

It seems to me that our options with N. Korea, and our window for action, keep narrowing. They're painting us into a corner with their threats and demonstrated rapidly increasing capabilites. I don't generally believe in pre-emptive strikes, but if it comes to a question of how many of our (or our allies') cities and millions of people we are willing to sacrifice if some of his missiles get through our defenses if we wait much longer, and how many S. Koreans are slaughtered in Seoul by artillery, a decapitating nuclear first strike is sounding more and more rational against such an irrational despot.   A decapitation strike could in the end save millions of both South & North Korean (& other) lives -- which was the rationale for Hiroshima & Nagasaki.
Or at least doing as Reagan did in the '80's in Europe by positioning land-based nuclear MRBM's in Japan and/or S. Korea. But I doubt Kim Jong Un is as rational and non-suicidal as the Soviets, who understood the ramifications of mutually assured destruction. He should already be aware of our ICBM, strategic bombers & SLBM capabilities, and doesn't seem to care. Or maybe a demonstration offshore of N. Korea, like the photo below. But of course that was argued against in the 1945 decisions for targeting.  Of course we should minimally place missile defense systems in S. Korea & Japan.
But there may well be other non-nuclear rapid decapitation measures that may be effective -- I'm sure they're exploring all the options. Clearly, all the years of diplomacy, sanctions, etc. have had zero effect. Is China really ready to live with the consequences of not doing much more than they have? A dangerous gambit they're playing with their client state on their border.
And this is what we'll be dealing with regarding Iran not many years hence.

This changes EVERYTHING about how the U.S. will need to deal with Kim Jong Un.

Alan Simons Quite the pickle, if the south had a nuclear capability how would that affect the situation?

Mark Clayson Good question. They'd certainly be justified, after the North started nuclearizing the peninsula. And it might throw another wrench in any calculations the North has made. But I'm not sure the South is willing -- yet.

Mark Clayson But I understand they are going to accept further non-nuclear military capabilities. Japan is even more likely to accept even nuclear capability -- there is probably even greater animosity against the Japanese than the S. Koreans, and a more tempting economic target.  Note that the N. Korean missiles have only gone over Japan, and not S. Korea.

Mark Clayson About the only remaining non-military leverage we have is to tighten the sanctions & boycott by discontinuing all trade with anyone who trades with and thereby supports N. Korea -- including (or especially) China. N. Korea is of China's making thru material, political & economic support, providing technology (e.g., apparently solid fueled ballistic missiles), etc. We brought down the Soviet Union by economic means, so why not Communist China? Their currency is artificially propped up and fragile, their economy very dependent on trade with us & the dollar, and there are still many persecuted & dissident groups boiling just below the surface post Tiananmen, and sympathies that could also help bring down their regime. Two for the price of one!

Alan Simons What would China do if they found N.K. has missiles pointed at them?

Mark Clayson Yes, I doubt they'd wait long to act. Which is what we should also do. Some are suggesting targeting any missile they prepare to launch -- with their threats & capabilities no one knows the target, and so we should assume the worst. And we would be fully justified after unanimous UN resolutions to halt their nuclear & missile tests -- if they won't halt them, we should. Trickier going after their nuclear sites due to possible contamination, but that would still be better than millions being nuked in one of our cities.

This is a great example of people helping others in a disaster -- not only relying on government. Houston (4th largest city in the nation) has a much bigger problem than New Orleans during Katrina. Reminds me a bit of the recent movie "Dunkirk," too, where some 600 private boats augmented the navy to rescue many trapped soldiers. And another reminder to us in L.A., that one of these days it will be the 2nd largest city in the nation (L.A.) devastated by a major earthquake, and needing self-help. A motivation to implement the Map Your Neighborhood program in our neighborhoods, so that everyone will have rapid-response first responders.

Here’s the radical Left’s cause du jour, to continue dismantling our “e pluribus unum” culture and fractionate and weaken us into tribalism.  The Antifa are remarkably like the Nazi fascist Brownshirts they ostensibly decry, with their street violence, re-writing history and destroying free speech just like book-burning.  A bunch of masked thugs – appropriately labeled domestic terrorists by the Dept. of Homeland Security.  And shameful cowards – otherwise why would they cover their faces?  They’d look a lot less tough without those ISIS-black outfits.  And in fact I’ve seen several after being unmasked, and they’re just run-of-the-mill dufuses.  Likely unemployed with nothing better to do, and some no doubt just go from one event to the next..  But they probably get paid by George Soros or the like.

The Left has to continually manufacture trivial or exaggerated causes that they can win by violent intimidation (even N. Korea comes to mind, and terrorists), because they would otherwise be irrelevant and impotent against any truly meaningful cause.  Like their failures to help the plight of the needy and crime-ridden in all the Democrat-controlled cities, or to intimidate or negotiate meaningful treaties or relationships or stability (e.g., North Korea, Iran, Russia, Iraq, ISIS…), or to improve education or employment, or be fiscally responsible (e.g., doubling the national debt), or improve race relations.  They’re full of outrage over all the problems, and promoting victimhood, but only make them worse when given a chance.  They’re great at tearing down, and miserable at building up (just like terrorists).  And perpetuating the problems continues to give them causes to appeal to their base, which never seems to learn from repeated failure.

The saying can’t be repeated often enough, apparently, that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the epitome (or definition) of insanity.  But it apparently makes them feel good to vent their anger, and feelings seem to be most important to them – not logic or results.  And even their feelings might well improve if they tried something different.  The Left has been called the most dynamic religion of the last century, and it may be so, but sad that so many ignoramuses are suckered into the cult.

And the Left amazingly still pursues their socialist utopia, after every serious attempt at socialism has failed miserably – Russia, Germany, Cuba, China, Venezuela, etc., etc.  And resulted in more deaths under Stalin & Mao (many tens of millions) than all the other historical causes.  They claim to be the true believers in science, but ignore all the scientific historical evidence, or re-write history to their own liking, including focusing on or exaggerating America’s imperfections, which pale in comparison.  They have no good example of their own, so they have to tear down the nation that has succeeded marvelously in so many ways.  Just like radical Islam.

Kudos to our Missile Defense Agency (incl. L.A. AFB) & Navy for another successful test -- this time from a ship off Hawaii instead of land-based in California. Those who threaten to do us & our allies harm need to clearly understand our capabilities -- not only to defend ourselves, but to utterly destroy them, if necessary. This capability, as well as the end of the Cold War that resulted in the break-up of the Soviet Union and fall of the Berlin Wall, are due in large part to Ronald Reagan's dogged pursuit of "Star Wars" technology, despite all the nay-sayers. As Napoleon Dynamite's brother sang, "I love technology..."

Days after another missile launch from North Korea, the United States tested its intercepting capabilities off the coast of Hawaii.

After North Korea's missile shot over Japan, maybe we should shoot one over North Korea and see how they like that. Maybe right over Pyongyang, since they're again threatening their next towards Guam. And perhaps time to start shooting down all their missiles, wherever they're going.

"The 2016 Election and the Demise of Journalistic Standards"
This article (speech transcript, really) is by a former New York Times journalist who has some interesting inside insights. And what he describes is supported quantitatively by a recent Harvard study. But it should be obvious to anyone who has been watching the various broadcasts & newspapers.
