Climate Impact on the Economy, The Border Rush & It's About Policy, Stupid

Climate & the Economy

Bjorn Lomborg wrote a WSJ article on the hysteria over projected climate impacts on the economy:

US (& global) economic growth this century is forecast at 300-400%.  Worst case climate impacts on that <10 --="" a="" and="" former="" obama="" official="" said="" span=""> <10 --="" a="" and="" former="" obama="" official="" said="" span="" style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  As complex as the climate itself is, and forecasting it, so, too is the economy – or we’d have a lot more rich investors.  And the combination of the two is nearly utterly unpredictable.  But the Left will stretch and fabricate to their heart’s content, as truth and facts and real science are not among their values.

The French have good reason to be rioting in the streets over taxes raised above their already highest in the world to pay for climate measures.

The border rush

Thanks, Leftist activists, for helping manufacture the situation confirming the need for more border wall.  Clearly, when several hundred thugs (some 500 in the caravan confirmed criminals, incl. MS-13) try to crash the border en masse, throwing projectiles at our border officers, there are limited options for “humane” border enforcement. Especially when the cowardly thugs use some women & children as human shields.  After learning that they consider tear gas as an inhumane “chemical weapon,” more wall appears the only alternative – they’ve come up with no others.

And we’re supposed to welcome with open arms thugs who come waving foreign flags, attacking our border officers and illegally swarming the border?  This is the kind of people we want here, who don’t respect us or our laws?  Even the Mexicans were complaining about the behavior of these thugs before they got to the border.  Trump was excoriated for saying in the campaign there are many (not all) bad people coming (including murderers who’ve killed our citizens), but the fraction is clearly significant enough to warrant border control.  To say nothing of drug & human trafficking, and possible terrorists – some in the caravan have been confirmed Middle-Easterners.

After weeks of the Left saying there’s nothing to worry about the migrant caravan – no “invasion” (e.g., Jim Acosta) – now that they’ve arrived at the border, suddenly there IS something to worry about.  Especially when Tijuana is not capable of dealing with several thousand, and several hundred are rushing the border at once to overwhelm our border security.  Fortunately Trump correctly saw and prepared for this, to nip it in the bud.  And they have a better, non-lethal, non-violent solution to turning back several hundred thugs?  No, their only acceptable solution would be to just let them in (can’t detain them for long to process, especially if they accompany a child).  Which of course would only encourage more of the same.  No, we must send a clear message that this caravanning, border-thronging tactic will not work.

Those who want to make Trump look bad no matter what he does were anxious to attack him for using “chemical weapons” (tear gas) against innocent women & children.  No matter that Obama issued the original orders for tear gas (& rubber bullets) during his administration, and implemented it hundreds of times – with no complaints by his loyal Leftist supporters.  Calling it “chemical weapons” is just typical Leftist hyperbole & emotional hysteria, and does disservice to real victims of lethal real chemical weapons in Syria, etc.
And of course the pictures in the press focus on the few women & children (less than 10% of the total caravan – by far most are single young men), and we can’t do anything to them, even when their parents/”guardians” have already endangered them on the perilous journey across Mexico, and knowingly putting them in an illegal and dangerous situation in a group of thugs trying to crash the border.  They need to bear responsibility.  As well as those Leftist organizers facilitating and egging them on, telling them to expect amnesty, etc.
The whole situation is manufactured – from the Leftist organization and logistics of the caravan, to the imbedded Leftist legal advisors telling them how to claim asylum, which is really not meant to cover people just seeking a better economic outcome, etc.  People in southern Mexico didn’t mind helping people pass through, as long as they weren’t staying in their back yard.  But in Tijuana the story is quite different, and in addition to the burden they are, intermittent border closures severely affect their economy.  You notice Mexican law enforcement getting much more involved, now.  And now finally the migrants are facing harsh realities after the lies they were told, and many are deciding it’s better to go back home.  The activists could have spared them all this, but they are prone to recklessly throw people under the bus with ill-conceived plans for political causes, just as those in Gaza who use human shields.

It's About Policy, Stupid

“When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon.” -- Thomas Paine

“Spartacus” & Kamala are just going from one grandstanding opportunity to the next.  In a hearing with the ICE administrator, Kamala wanted him to grovel to the perception by some that ICE is perceived as similar to the KKK. If government bowed to every Leftist, politically-motivated misperception….  But of course that’s the whole idea behind the bullying and intimidation of political correctness, which the Left are masters at.  And “Spartacus” & Hillary et al were busy decrying how the Georgia governor race was stolen from the Black, female candidate, who also won’t concede.  Was this the same Hillary who ridiculed Trump for thinking the election might be rigged?  Of course the gender & race card were pulled.  Maybe it’s just a counter to the GOP’s suspicions of the Broward County, Florida shenanigans.  The GOP candidate in Arizona graciously conceded despite the closeness of that race.  It’s the Dems who are notorious for stealing elections – like JFK in Chicago, Al Franken in Minnesota,…

Today at the gym, I overheard first hand that Trump derangement syndrome has hardly abated since the election.  The trainer was talking about getting captivated by serial killer movies, and his trainee began fantasizing about the Secret Service backing off from the president (or doing him in themselves?).  They did back off a bit, and say realistically they hope he at least gets thrown in prison. For what, exactly, I don’t know – they were gleeful over a couple of his former associates in trouble for other matters.  I was biting my tongue, and I don’t think they’d yet noticed my Trump tank-top.  I think next time I will no longer be able to hold my tongue, and here are some things I might say, trying to steer away from the politics of personal attacks and back towards policies, which are in the end more impactful for all of us.
In the last election, we each had to pick our poison – both parties seemed to put up very flawed candidates.  Trump was my very last choice on the GOP side.  But weighing his flaws, and policies, against Hillary’s, the choice was still fairly straightforward.  She had various potential criminal cases hanging over her, her Alinsky-ite philosophies taking her further left than her husband or even Obama, and her grating personality.  Even with Trump’s brashness and unproven conservative credentials, it was well worth the gamble.  And the gamble has paid off with pleasant surprises on conservative results.  Which are more important to me than his style and gaffes.  Substance over style – just the reverse of our last president.

So if you want to talk about flaws, we can argue endlessly about the Trump-Hillary comparison, or we can continue to pursue dead-end conspiracy theories like Russian collusion, with none to show after 2 years.  But I would prefer discussing policy differences that have farther-reaching and longer-lasting effects.  And I feel the Democrat party (now being pulled more to the Left) and liberals have more to fear from the Left than from the Right.  Antifa and some of these upstart socialists are truly frightening, and I think moderate/liberal Democrats have, or should have, more in common with Republicans than those Leftists.  Hopefully we can work together more productively with the new Congress for the benefit of everyday Americans, rather than endless personal attacks.

More Antifa

Black-clad/masked Leftist (Antifa?) domestic terrorists screamed outside conservative commentator Tucker Carlson’s home at night, “We know where you sleep at night.”  Terrorizing his innocent wife and children.  As usual, they don’t argue with the arguments (they can’t), but attack, intimidate and bully the arguer.  This is despicable – they should be arrested and punished.  They also threaten our freedom of press – much moreso than anything Trump has done.  Along with the biased censoring by Facebook, Twitter, etc.
