A D-Day Tribute to Veterans in My Family

On this 75th anniversary of D-Day, I thought I'd honor the memory of those in my family who served in that war and since. 

 3 in WWII (photos from Family Search): my uncle Keith Clayson who operated the radar on the USS Enterprise; 
 

my uncle Vid Clayson in the Rainbow Division who liberated Dachau; 
 
and my uncle Don Harwood who was in the Army Air Force in India doing weather related work for the planes "flying the hump" to China. 




My father Reed Clayson was in the Army artillery (Fort Bliss, Texas) in the early '50's. 



My uncle Reed Hartvigsen also in the Army I think at Fort Irwin near Barstow about the same time. 


2 Air Force cadets: brother-in-law Jay Winzenried who was a pilot then doctor in a MASH unit in the Kosovo war; and nephew Johann Johnson entering his 4th year at the Air Force Academy. 

His brother Anders is in ROTC, and my grand-niece Annelise wants to go to the Air Force Academy. 

 I'm just a Cold Warrior (& for Desert Storm -- the first "space war," etc.) in the Defense Industry -- the arsenal of democracy.

Epiphanies, Socialists in Democrats' Clothing & the Welfare State

Another Epiphany! Giving credit where credit is due, apparently Pres. Obama has had yet another epiphany similar to those in his (ig)Nobel prize speech (that there IS evil in the world that can NOT be negotiated with but must be fought). The other day he actually used the words “war on terror” for the first time, instead of “overseas contingency operations,” or “man-caused disasters.” The Left must be fuming. It is not yet clear whether this is a real conversion from the liberal-left virtual world to reality, or just Augustinian political expediency. If the latter, our outcries may be getting through – liberals just have to feel loved, and apparently he wasn’t feeling the love being returned from the rest of the world (his "foreign affairs") after his apology tours, so he’s starting to make another try at patching things up back home. In this post: The Iran Nuclear Agreement Broader Ramifications Same-sex Marriage Decision & Religious Liberty   The 2016 Campaigns The Iran Nuclear Agreement Obama and his lackeys have proven once again what miserable negotiators they are.  They have given away the farm and gotten hardly anything in return.  They may or may not have stalled the Iranian march to nuclear weapons for a few years – inspection rules require 24 day notice for specific sites (plenty of time for shell games like Saddam played in Iraq), and are subject to a committee which Iran sits on.  And we don’t even know all the places they may be hiding stuff.  Apparently the deal not only lifts the embargo sanctions, including conventional weapons, but gives Iran tens of billions of dollars to bolster their economy, and much greater ability to foster terrorism throughout the world, and regional instability, much more than their current level as the prime state sponsor of terror
