12/18/12 – French economist says U.S. abandoning it’s strengths Medved quoted the leading French economist who said that the U.S. still drives the world economic engine because of entrepreneurial spirit, the drive to innovate, and predictable taxes and regulations, but that the last few years they’ve forgotten these last 2 principles and have slowed.  They’ll revive when they return to these principles. 12/19/12 – Obama concern over gun control rather than fiscal cliff. Why doesn’t Obama put half the apparent energy he’s been putting into the school shooting and gun control into the fiscal cliff, spending, deficit & budget, rather than half-baked ridiculous offers.  He feels great urgency for the former, but has stated that the debt/deficit is of no near term concern – he’ll just kick that can down the road.  It’s not a pet liberal issue or concern they can play on for political advantage.  It’s the spending that buys them votes and keeps them in pow...

It’s coming down to the Aug. 2 wire for the national debt ceiling deadline, with a game of chicken between the spending reduction & budget balancing advocates (GOP) & tax revenue raising advocates (Democrats). Workable compromises are yet to materialize – notwithstanding the Senate “gang of 6.” Prince Harry has issued a royal decree that the “cut, cap & balance” legislation passed in the House of Representatives will not even be considered in the Senate. And royal highness Obama indicated he would veto such a bill. Not that he has any specific proposal of his own. But he does have plenty of wrath & indignation for what he says are basically politically motivated and obstructionist Republicans. Not that there might be any nobler motives among the GOP, or any political maneuvering and motives by Democrats. Compromise is always one-sided with Democrats. It would be nice if we had a commander-in-chief whom the troops (even avowed liberals like Gen. McChrystal) respected. But barring that, at least we have a litigator-in-chief who can, as he says, “kick some a**” -- in the courts and Chicago-style. And he’s got a strategy for a legal “surge” of new lawyers & government regulators that will result from the new 2,000-page regulatory bill – a whole new army of lawyers & SEIU members, to supplement the ACLU, the army of IRS agents to enforce the health care bill, etc. It would seem that Obama actually has created jobs – primarily in the government (he also took credit for the temporary census takers) and legal professions. That should do wonders for the economy and GDP, and towards becoming more like such economic bulwarks as Greece, California, LA,....
