“Peace in Our Time(?),” Big Government, Incompetence & Mandela

The Iranian Deal – “Peace in Our Time?” Obama declared the nuclear inspection & sanctions relaxation deal with Iran a “new path ... a prelude to a comprehensive agreement.”  It’s supposed to put their nuclear weapons development on hold, and buy us time.  Which sounds eerily similar to Neville Chamberlain’s “Peace in our time” when he returned from Munich just prior to WWII.  And so, once again, this administration’s “solution” is to kick the can down the road – 6 months.  It’s a “first step” – a freeze – to dismantling.  And first steps – stage one thinking – is about as far as this administration, and the Democrats in general, seem able to go as far as any real results on anything.  All it does is relax sanctions, freeing up billions of dollars in their frozen assets, allowing them to rebuild their economy, removing political pressure to eliminate nuclear weapons production capabilities and pulling the rug out from any internal pressures for re...

Anniversaries Yield Contrasts

Anniversaries of two U.S. historical events occurred this week – the 150 th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, and the 50 th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination.  Both offer insights and contrasts relevant to today.  The Gettysburg Address Bret Stephens, in the Wall Street Journal ( WSJ.com - Bret Stephens: From 'Four Score' to 'Yes We Can!' ), points out Obama’s hubris and use of various symbols of, and references to, Lincoln to draw comparisons with himself.  Of course we have no one alive who can say they knew Lincoln , that he was a friend of theirs, but that “Mr. Obama, you are no Lincoln .”  But Stephens points out, in addition to the failings of his signature Obamacare, domestic economics, foreign policy, etc., Obama & Lincoln are worlds apart in the area of “the president’s once-celebrated prose.”  “ Abraham Lincoln spoke greatly because he read wisely and thought deeply. He turned to Shakespeare, he once said, ...

Reversal of Fortunes & Sorry Apologies

A Target-Rich Environment It’s such a target-rich environment that I hardly know where to begin.  Not that more pot-shots are really needed in the pile-on – even many liberals (Pres. Clinton, Senators & Congressmen, pundits) and some mainstream media are joining in like rats jumping the sinking Obamacare ship (or train wreck, if you prefer).  I’ll be quoting and linking several liberal sources.  Finally – the bipartisanship Obama promised!   It is refreshing to see the smug, condescending looks on the faces of Democrats replaced by worry or panic, and a loss for words replacing their political advice to the GOP.  For a change, here’s some advice to them:  don’t sell your half-baked utopian plans to the American people with fraudulent promises – you will eventually be found out, and they won’t be happy.  And you should have listened to us in early October and taken us up on the offer to delay Obamacare.  Does anyone believe ...
