1144+!!!

Primaries & Delegate Update In the W. Virginia Democrat primary, a convicted felon in prison in Texas got 41% of the vote, vs. Obama.  Just maybe there’s a little dissatisfaction out there with the “hope and change.”  In the 7 primaries from May 8 to 22, Romney won 65-72% of the delegates.  According to Politico, as of May 28, he was 60 delegates short of the 1144 needed to secure the nomination.  With 155 delegates in the Texas primary May 29, as expected, he became the “mathematically certain” (my term -- no longer “presumptive,” but not yet “official,” which occurs at the convention) nominee with another 70% win.  A day most Mormons never thought they’d see – certainly at least many I’ve spoken with.  They’re possibly as incredulous as the Evangelicals. The general polling continues to be neck-and-neck between Mitt & Obama.  But Mitt is apparently closing the gender gap, and is even ahead of Obama in polling of married women...

“Divert, Distract & Distort” & the Real Romney

Primary Update With Santorum out, and Newt & Ron Paul picking up scraps, Romney cleaned up in the 5 primaries this week:  Pennsylvania , NY, Connecticut , Delaware & Rhode Island .  With 66% of the delegates decided in 43 primaries, this puts Mitt at 847 delegates, needing 300 more (of the remaining 770) to formally secure the nomination.  He should reach that, at his current rate, by May 29 ( Texas ), or certainly by June 5 ( California , etc.).  The National Republican Party organization is already formally merging w. the Romney organization to pool resources for the general election campaign, which has for all intents and purposes already begun.  Some hilights of his victory speech (apologies for my note-taking – the whole speech can be heard at www.MittRomney.com ).  “After Obama’s great Greek-column extravaganza 4 years ago, what do we have to show?  ... He can’t run on his record – he will divert, distract & distort – t...

The General Election Campaign Begins

The GOP Primary -- Over Except for the Shouting First some catching up on week-old news. Paul Ryan’s endorsement of Romney: “I Have 2 criteria for who to vote for: who’d make the best president (best qualified), and who has the best chance to defeat Obama.” He said he’s never made an endorsement before, but the dire circumstances warrant it now. Mitt swept Wisconsin, Maryland & Washington, D.C., and now needs only 40% of remaining delegates to secure the nomination, vs. Santorum needing 74%. In Mitt’s victory speech, he said that “Obama saying he likes the economy but not business, is like saying you like omelets but not eggs.” He noted new business starts are down – the lowest in 30 years. 30% of single moms are in poverty. He’ll spend the next 4 years rebuilding the foundation of an opportunity society (vs. Obama’s transformation to a government-centered society). When you attack business, you have less business, and less success. If you attack success, there’ll be less...
