13 Ideas to Help in this Crucial Election

Only 35 days before what many are calling the most critical election in our lives – or even our nation’s history!

Everyone should be able to find one or more of the following ideas that they feel like doing – there’s something for everyone.  The debate-watching party, rally and free Las Vegas deployments, below, sound especially fun -- I may do some.  You can count on good company at a GOP event.  And there is strength in numbers.

  1. Invoke Divine Help
    1. Pray daily for good & wise leaders & a wise electorate – I received an email of a nation-wide  simultaneous moment of prayer across time zones – 6pm PDT, 7pm MDT, 8pm CDT, 9pm EDT, every day from now until the election.
    2. Fast – my cousin filled the October calendar with families of friends & relatives who each took a different day to fast – I’m Oct. 7

  1.  Attend or host a debate-watching party, at your home or, for instance,  “The Torrance-Lomita Republican Assembly and Team Romney ( Torrance ) are hosting a debate watching party!

“Come and join us at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Del Amo Mall (first floor, below the movie theater) for an evening of fun, good food, and yelling at the TV when appropriate!

“Buffalo Wild Wings is reserving a private room just for us - and they'll set the TVs to Fox News so we can watch "Fair and Balanced" debate commentary.

“The first presidential debate is on Wednesday, October 3rd.  The private room is ours from 5:30 until 8:30 pm.  The debate runs from 6:00 until 7:30 pm.

“There is no cover charge for this special event, but we encourage all of you to have appetizers or dinner while you're there.  And Buffalo Wild Wings is helping out by offering 10 great items for just $3 each from their Happy Hour menu in addition to their full dinner menu (and don't let their name fool you - they have a lot more than just wings!).

“THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BRING  A FRIEND!  More friends = more fun, and it's a chance to grow the Republican Party right here in Torrance !  [or meet some great fellow Republicans – what a great group of people I met at the RNC!]

“RSVP is not necessary, but welcome.
[I always take notes for material for my blog]

  1. Attend a rally.  Bring out the latent 70’s radical in you, GOP-style & show we have spirit.   The LA County Repub. Party is having a Wake Up America 2012 rally on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 2-6 pm at the federal building in West L.A.  There will be thousands, and speakers include Dennis Prager, Steve Bannon, Bill Whittle, Mark Meckler, Rosa Koire, and AlfonZo Rachel.  “Let’s Roll!”  It coincides w. a visit to LA by Obama.  “It will give you concrete ways to get involved in grassroots initiatives so that you can make an immediate difference in the November election.”  I may go.

  1.  Volunteer to help at a local Republican or battleground state candidate headquarters (check online, e.g. at www.mittromney.com, for locations, etc.) – e.g., Craig Huey’s in the South Bay is a key race to block a Democrat super majority in the California legislature.  This may involve for instance:
    1. Participate in a deployment to a battleground state like Nevada – there are deployments from S. Calif. to Las Vegas every weekend from Oct. 5 to the election.  Buses depart Fri. eve. & return Sun. eve.  Transportation, lodging & meals are provided (hey, a free trip to Vegas!  And you don’t even have to tell your liberal neighbors what you did).  I may go to one.  RSVP for more info to http://www.mittromney.com/forms/CAHelpMittWinNV, or for questions call (619) 500-2625 or CAdeployments@mittromney.com.  You may do any of the following
    2. Precinct walking (placing door hangers – I’ve done this, get out the vote (GOTV), asking questions/polling, giving a plug)
    3. Phone bank calling – I’ve done this to Nevada & Iowa during the primaries – very easy & toll-free at a headquarters or from home w. a computer using a script of questions/statements & recording responses
    4. Odd jobs at the headquarters

  1. Display yard signs, bumper stickers, and wear T-shirts & buttons, caps, etc.  I’ve only received positive comments on my Romney T-shirts I’ve been wearing regularly at the gym.  I’ve made home-made window/bumper stickers & yard signs.  Like (a response to Clinton’s DNC “arithmetic”)
                               “National Debt Arithmetic:
                              1776-2008:   $ 11 Trillion
                                       2012    $ 16 Trillion
                                       2016    $ 21 Trillion”

  1. Inform yourself.  Read the newspapers, periodicals, political network/cable news (e.g., Fox), radio talk shows (Prager, Medved, Hewitt, etc.) websites (e.g., Townhall.com, my blog www.highgroundunderground.blogspot.com has other links), books like The Amateur, or No Apology.  See the movie “2016,” or “Atlas Shrugged (Part 2).”  Read the voter pamphlets & respected recommendations.

  1. Have political conversations w. friends, family, neighbors, etc (after you inform yourself, or ask questions to learn).  Play it a bit safe on who you talk with, and about what.  You may join an online blog conversation, or follow someone on Twitter.

  1. Forward good emails or things you come across.

   9.    Write a letter to the editor.  I’ve had a few published in past elections.

  1. Blog, or make Facebook comments, or Likes.  See mine at www.highgroundunderground.blogspot.com and https://www.facebook.com/mark.clayson.98?ref=tn_tnmn

  1. Make donations.  Time to put your money where your mouth is, and dig a little deeper than usual.  It’s a wise investment in your future & your posterity’s with what’s at stake this election, and it can make up for your lack of other actions.  Options include MittRomney.com, Republican National Senatorial Committee, Republican National Committee, individual key races (like Emken in California , and others noted at Hugh Hewitt’s site, etc.).  Or like me you may be getting plenty of solicitations by mail or email.  You can buy cool campaign mementos & advertising items like T-shirts, buttons, yard signs, bumper stickers or window decals at MittRomney.com, and much of the money goes to the campaign.  They also make great gifts.  And I've gotten Christmas cards from the Bushes & Romneys.

  1. Solicit donations from others – some delegates to the RNC that I talked to had reached large ($100,000 +) goals of committing & “bundling” large donors from among friends, family, etc.  Some invited candidates to their home, or filled tables at already-organized events, at various levels of contribution like $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 etc. with various levels of privileges.

  1. Be a poll-watcher – especially lawyers are sought for this.  If it’s close, they’re likely to cheat.  Obamacare passed by one vote – Al Franken won in Minnesota by less than 100 votes, I believe, and now we learn of a few hundred fraudulent votes that put him over the top.  And Dems complain about the “stolen” 2000 election!
