Solutions: Fiscal & Mass Shootings
Merry Christmas. But
don’t be surprised if Santa doesn’t come your way this year....
I would note that the same may begin to apply to charities, whose function government also seems to want to pre-empt.
Fiscal Solutions
As we edge ever closer to the fiscal cliff, Bainer has said
he’ll compromise and go along with raising the taxes on the rich, if the Dems
come up with meaningful spending cuts & reforms. We’ll see.
But increasing taxes on the rich will pay for only 8 days of
operation of the federal government. A
drop in the bucket when the national debt is on par with the GDP. Clearly we have a spending problem, not an
under-taxing problem.
Mark Levin noted that about 60% of states have governors and
legislatures in Republican hands. And it
is they who are pushing back against federal government encroachments and
neglects such as waivers on Obamacare (24 of the states so far), immigration enforcement, and
right-to-work. He places much of our
remaining hope in their hands, closer to the grass-roots level. According to Wikipedia, the breakdown is as
follows (state-by-state finer breakdowns are at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_state_legislatures).

Limbaugh notes that the union fight and thuggery witnessed
recently in Michigan is not so much about jobs, wages & benefits [although
many of the ill-advised lowly “useful idiots” may think so], as much as the
funding source of the unions and hence the Democrat party & power. Right to work has improved employment where
implemented, as even the very blue state of Michigan has come to realize.
Medved notes that the Dems are being dishonest about
claiming to give the people a tax cut – they’d simply be extending the Bush tax
cuts – keeping the rates at their current levels.
I note that we offered a good Mormon solution (Romney) to
clean up the fiscal mess created by another Mormon (Reid) – we do try to
clean up after ourselves. But alas, “you
can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”
The Real Cause of & Solution to the Horror in Connecticut
A horrific tragedy yesterday at the school in Newtown , Connecticut . Truly evil and cowardice incarnate, terrifying
and slaughtering innocent and helpless little children. A monster without conscience.
And once again the cry is raised for more gun control as the
solution. But is that the only or best
solution, or even effective? Connecticut
& New Jersey
have some of the tightest gun control laws in the nation. Even moreso Norway where a man killed over 70
youth. And if even all guns were
eliminated (i.e., the 2nd Amendment repealed), look what McVeigh did
in Oklahoma City
to an entire building, including daycare center, with fertilizer. Or the 20 or so children slashed with a knife
by the man in China . Where there’s an evil will, there’s a
way. Even if all gun sales were halted,
guns would be plentiful for decades, unless confiscated. And once one is sold legally from a store,
they can be resold or given or loaned or stolen at will.
Liberals love to blame conservatives and guns – including
Obama’s statement about those who “cling to their guns and their
religion.” But the common thread to all
of the killings, overarching all weapons of choice (including boxcutters to
hijack airplanes and crash them into buildings), is people without conscience
or belief/fear of eternal justice. And
it is exactly a lack of this that secular liberals preach and promote, and
attack the religious beliefs and family values that do keep the majority of
people from many crimes, including murder.
These religious beliefs inculcate integrity, personal
responsibility, respect, love of fellow man and the golden rule. And faith in God and His eternal justice
provide motivation to adhere to them. And
functional families that care and look out for problem children.
Those who deny divine good are all too ready to deny the
other side of the coin – real evil. And
to focus on psychological analysis & injustices, and place blame on
environmental factors and material things like guns. Their “morals” are always relative and not
absolute, because they have no higher, absolute, infallible source like God –
only themselves. They subscribe to the
philosophies of self-gratification and self-justification in the face of any
perceived injustice (e.g., looting in riots).
And they are every bit as dogmatic and pushy as any religious sect,
having taken over the secular temples of learning – the schools – and indoctrinated
our youth and young adults with their secular leftist and liberal “values”
based on disproven theories rather than time-proven wisdom. It takes them years of living in the real
world before most see the lack of wisdom and practicality in what they learned,
and turn to more conservative values.
It is liberal policies (however well-intentioned – the road
to hell is paved with good intentions) that have destroyed the vast majority of
2-parent families in so much of the Black community & ghettos, where crime
is rampant. And their narcissistic
dogmas that are preoccupied with and demand “justice” for every perceived wrong
or inequality, and justify whatever means to obtain it. It is precisely this narcissistic
self-absorption that leads these monsters to exact retribution from society for
whatever perceived wrongs done to them. Or
to satisfy their evil passions and lusts – even without weapons. Many, including God, value innocence and
chastity above life itself.
No, not even a total ban on guns would solve the
problem. The problem is the decay of
societal morals (the rise of evil & culture of violence), which is a function of the lack of teaching
of morals, and lack of cultivation of faith (see my blog on Faith: http://fastinthefaith.blogspot.com/). The liberal cry for gun control is a
distraction from the real problem and solution.
And often a politically-motivated one – one more means of bashing
conservatives for “clinging to their guns and religion.”
And in the meantime, if there were one well-placed,
well-armed & armored, retired military or police man at each school, we can
stop or reduce the killing of our most valuable innocents. Clearly there are ways to break into even
secure facilities. But the cowards will
be faced with something that evens the odds – not merely the defenseless. We have armed air marshalls on our planes to protect full-grown
adults – shouldn’t we value our precious, innocent, totally defenseless
children at least as much?
This is simply an extension of Reagan’s philosophy of “peace
through strength” from the national to the local level. It’s worked nationally – it stood off and
eventually “disarmed” an “evil empire.” Bringing
it back to the national level, clearly Obama’s path of unilateral
disengagement, disarmament and low profile (Benghazi ) has only encouraged militant
Islamists to take advantage. And the
Democrats seem all too eager to absorb the defense budget-slashing
sequestration. Nature abhors a vacuum,
and the militant extremists (Al Qaida, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Iran, N. Korea, Chinese & Russian & Venezuelan totalitarians, etc.) stand all-too ready to fill it.
And speaking of faith, I will give credit to the president for attempting to offer comfort, as is the customary duty of a president, at a time of national tragedy. But in quoting "spricture," as he said, we are only reminded of how unfamiliar he seems to be with the word "scripture", after all those years in Rev. Wright's church, and by extension, his apparent unfamiliarity with their content (no doubt the verses found for him by others). Just as his repeated mis-pronunciation of Marine "corpse-men" and the doubt this casts on his understanding of them (though he's worked hard to publicly champion veterans & curry their favor, and vote).
I'm also reminded of how some "conservatives" complained that Romney didn't speak the language of conservatism fluently enough. And now, thanks in part to those who withheld their votes because of Romney's religion, or lack of conservatism, we have a president who is diametrically opposite conservatism, and whose faith and religious knowledge/belief is even more questionable than the man we could have had (Romney), who through his many years of faithful church & missionary service and study was clearly intimately familiar with scripture -- moreso than most who withheld their votes. And a man who could speak with that familiarity & assurance, and more naturally tend to seek guidance from that Divine source, rather than the counsel of secular leftists. Once again, perfection is the enemy of the good.
