The Border Wall -- Substantial vs Disingenuous Arguments
Expert:
Wall an essential part of a comprehensive solution.
He's Obama's expert, and exactly right -- technology and
manpower are only components of a comprehensive, effective solution, including
an essential barrier (aka "wall") component. Like a multi-layer
missile defense. Drones and detectors and manpower won't stop several thousand
(or more) people rushing the border, and they're sure to increase the caravan
size after these initial probes. And there's much less empirical or rational
evidence they would be effective alone than evidence of the effectiveness of walls. How many
constitute an "invasion" or "crisis" in the eyes of
Democrats? Trouble is, it's a steady flow invasion over many decades -- about a
million illegals a year. Like the frog in a pot of water heating slowly to
boiling, and it doesn't sense the danger until too late. That million a year is
much more over a long period than Europe or any other country would tolerate --
they struggled with the 1 million one-time ISIS refugees. And we see some of
the consequences.
INSIDER.FOXNEWS.COM
Mark Morgan,
who led the U.S. Border Patrol during Barack Obama's presidency, said Saturday
that he's in total agreement with President Trump's proposed border wall.
They “Can’t
Handle the Truth.”
And Pelosi and Schumer, who claim Trump isn't being truthful
about statistics, apparently "can't handle the truth." In a White
House meeting, as soon as Secretary Nielsen (Homeland Security) was given the
floor to go over the statistics, Schumer & Pelosi interrupted and
filibustered -- reminiscent of the tactic of "Spartacus" & Kamala
at the start of the Kavenaugh hearing. They don't want to hear the truth,
because they can't refute it. And they appeared to be deer in the headlights
after the president's address to the nation that cited many factual statistics
that they couldn't refute, nor could the media "fact-checkers." No,
they just fall back on their littany of pseudo-arguments I cited and refuted in
a post yesterday.
I can't resist. The facial expressions of Schumer & Pelosi in their rebuttal to President Trump were priceless. They fit perfectly into the "American Gothic" painting meme. I told someone they looked like wax figures. Or deer in the headlights. Nor were their words any better.
The Serious Representative, Working Hard for the People
With the exception of a one-day visit to the troops in Iraq
& Europe, Trump has remained in the White House working hard for months,
and available for the Dems to negotiate. Unlike Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, et al
who go to Hawaii, etc. on nice vacations, while their uncompromising
intransigence causes 800,000 federal workers to have paychecks delayed. They're
not about to compromise, and they're setting themselves up for failure for any
measures they want to get passed across his desk, expecting him to compromise.
So it's time for him to declare an emergency, and build the rest of the wall --
after over 3 decades since their hollow promise to Reagan, it's time to put our
foot down and deliver. "This far, and no farther." This is a red line
-- which Trump enforces, unlike Obama. Trump cleans up messes and delivers on
promises made by multiple former presidents, like ISIS, Iran, Ukraine, the
economy, the Jerusalem embassy, over-regulation, stalled pipelines, etc., etc.
The Disingenuous Arguments Against
Isn’t the Resist movement
rich with disingenuous, specious arguments against the wall that belie their
real motivations? It takes really very little thought to discount their many
superficial arguments (a shotgun approach to overwhelm us with numbers), which
I enumerate and discount, below. And to see their true motives, which of course
they (or at least their leaders) realize are so unworthy & deplorable that
they do not wish to acknowledge them. Namely their petty visceral hatred of
Trump, & willingness to manipulate American demographics for their own
political gain (see the Atlantic article linked below), and against Americans’
best interests. The Kool-Aid drinkers who merely echo their arguments probably
hear the talking points repeated so often on the various media (I’ve seen some
incredible montages) that they come to believe them.
“We can’t afford it," or "it’s a waste
of money.”
This, after no concern whatsoever over Obama single-handedly doubling our
national debt (by $10 Trillion) with all kinds of waste on the stimulus, cash
for clunkers, green energy, Obamacare, etc., with the slowest recovery in
history? Now they’re suddenly Ebenezer Scrooge? What a remarkable conversion!
Trump has asked for 1/1000th of our budget for the wall. What is the price of
all the lost lives, impacts of drug and crime, economic and social burdens on
our society and standards of living, etc.? Many times that, I assure you. And
their political economics are also woefully inept – Trump is willing to give
them DACA and other reforms for the small price he is asking. But no, it is all
about showing their political muscle with their new House majority, and about
Pelosi pandering to the extremists in her party in order to secure her position
as Speaker. Compromise is out of the question for them, and gridlock looms
large for the near future. Which leaves Trump few alternatives, but to exercise
executive powers, just as Obama did. Thank you, Obama & Reid, for your
precedents.
"Trump promised that Mexico would pay for
it."
This is a corollary to the previous affordability. But a diversion from the
more important question of whether the wall is needed or important in the first
place. If it is, then who pays for it, how, and when, is superfluous, as long
as it's built in timely fashion. This is just another instance of Democrats,
desperate for another demeaning rock to throw at Trump (to show how he
"lies"), parsing and interpreting his words literally to their own
purposes. Like how they imply that he said all Mexican illegals are murderers
and rapists -- but enough are to warrant controlling and being selective in our
immigration. He didn't say Mexico would pay directly, did he? That never seemed
reasonable, and their former president said "no" emphatically
(actually explitively). But as he has indicated, he has negotiated a more
favorable trade deal with Mexico, and that will likely benefit our economy, and
indirectly thru taxes the government, easily to the equivalent amount. And
others have even suggested that the confiscation of the captured "El
Chappo's" (drug lord) assets is several times the amount in question.
“Trump is using scare tactics – he appeals to fear
& misinformation, not facts.” Which, exactly, of the many statistics and facts
Trump laid out in his speech to the nation, are not factual? They wouldn’t
specify – only appealing to their mantra of Trump being a liar – because he is
not a slick politician but more prone to inarticulateness, brashness, some
exaggeration as a showman. And because they almost always find some way to
interpret his words in the worst possible way, though he often intends
something different, as proven by his actions. No, he’s not the college
professor & slick politician that Obama was, and they despise that – in
addition to his upset victory over their darling Hillary. No, they fulfill the
biblical prophecy of those in latter days who would be “offended at a word.”
Yes, PC run amok. Not only offended, but strip people of any integrity they
had, and their livelihood. And they call others cruel? In fulfillment of
another biblical prophecy, they have “itching ears” – they want to hear
pleasing tones, as on NPR, and be told soothing things, not the truth that
sometimes does engender some healthy fear – to cause us to act to correct
things. Like their doomsday fear of climate change that they promote everywhere, including to our children in grade schools -- and that's not using fear? I hear of people saying they're not having children to bring them into a doomed world. Or those saying Trump is the end of democracy, start of institutionalized racism, etc.? I’m convinced that no amount of facts and statistics would phase them
when they don’t serve their progressive/Leftist purposes. They’re impervious to
facts & statistics -- they have their own set of “facts.”
“It’s a manufactured crisis.” Well, it is manufactured
– by Democrats’ long-standing willful intransigence, and advocacy and
encouragement for illegal immigrants to game the system by rushing the border
in caravans, claiming the magic word “asylum.”
“His policies are cruel, immoral, not who we are.
We need to build bridges, not walls.” First, who we are – we are a democratic republic,
and Trump was elected legitimately, and one of his most popular and
oft-repeated platforms was building (or expanding) the wall. It is not his will
only, but the will of the people. As to cruelty, the border agent MO’s they
complain so loudly about have been no different from those under Obama. When
they are overwhelmed by massive new caravan tactics, it becomes more likely
there will be some human shortcomings, though the border patrol are largely
Hispanic and very compassionate, sacrificing their own food, etc. at times.
Yes, we are a
nation of immigrants – legal immigrants have always been welcome. And there has
always been screening (e.g., Ellis Island) – of diseases, etc., as in about any
country in the world. We do believe in “e pluribus Unum,” and are the most
diverse and accepting, tolerant country on earth, as any who have traveled can
testify. But we are not obligated morally to just take anyone for any reason –
including terrorists, criminals, those who lie (or are misled to lie) about
eligibility for asylum, merely to improve their economic status or leech off
the welfare state. I’m sure there are hundreds of millions or billions who
would come here if they could, and we cannot accommodate them all – at least
not in a short period, or in a fashion where they cannot be assimilated. We
also have an obligation to preserve our institutions and security and welfare –
and our elected representatives take an oath to defend this country and its
constitution. Who we are not are the mentality of the failed, Leftist forms of
government these illegals bring with them, and will likely naively tend to vote
for here (with Democrat propaganda), ironically, undermining the very reasons
they came in the first place. As Trump said, “People build walls not because
they hate those outside, but because they love those inside.” Just as people
have walls around their homes, and lock their doors. There are many good people
they don’t have to worry about, but the few bad people can do enough harm that
precautions are only prudent. They are even biblical. And even Pelosi’s pope
has a wall around the Vatican, if she wants to attack his morality, as well.
No, the cruelty
lies with the progressives/Leftists who help organize and encourage these
migrant caravans, etc., putting lives especially of women & children in
real danger on the trek. They come up with beautiful, idealistic-sounding
phrases like “we need to build bridges, not walls.” They appeal to emotions,
and entail very little thought by those adopting them. We already have many
legal ports of entry, and much commerce, including newly negotiated trade
agreements, have a majority Hispanic population and culture in L.A., etc. – all
“bridges.” If we were to truly just have open borders, which it sounds like
some advocate, think of the problems. What of the cruelty of the thousands
killed by illegals – who families sorely miss, more maimed and victims of other
crimes. In Texas alone, in a 7 year period, there were over 4,000 illegals
convicted of sexual assault and imprisoned, 60% of which were against children.
Or the many deaths (more than killed in Vietnam) due to illegal drugs. Or the
low-income jobs lost to citizens due to illegals. Aren’t the lax border control
due to the Democrats cruel to our own citizens? Any business or elder care
center or school controls who enters, for the welfare of those within, and are
liable if they lapse. But the Democrats seem not to care, or take
responsibility. In one recent 2 week period in one section of border illegals
from 44 countries were apprehended, including Middle Eastern – not just
Mexicans or Central Americans. Aren’t these a potential threat from terrorism,
espionage and subversion, as well as crime?
“It’s ineffective.” This, after Pelosi said
we have to pass the bill (Obamacare) to see what’s in it, and whether it works
(it didn’t)? And after all the empirical evidence to the contrary about walls
in this country and others? They say we are the deniers of empirical data? And
despite all the experts who work on the border (a large fraction of whom are
Hispanic) and say they need a wall – in addition to other measures. It was
hilarious to see Jim Acosta on the border next to one of the better slat
(steel?) tall walls, saying “see, things are calm on the border – nothing to
see here.” Yes, precisely BECAUSE of that section of wall – duh! They tend to
cross around sections of wall.
Walls work – here’s proof of several in a short video.
“Just cut a deal without the wall, and we’ll deal
with it later.”
You mean like the promises made to Reagan, when he signed amnesty, etc., with
the promise of border control, but never got it? Or Schumer’s broken promise to
build 700 miles of wall? They really think we’re like Charlie Brown, Lucy &
the football?
“We can’t let nearly a million federal workers
continue to suffer not being paid.” Yes, those poor non-essential federal workers who
are getting basically a paid (delayed pay) vacation. Oh, the humanity! --
compared with the human costs (including lives) of illegal immigration not
being stopped! They (including the media) barely if at all acknowledge those
victims of illegal immigration, and choose to empathize instead with the larger
demographic of inconvenienced voters for their political benefit. They’ve done
the numbers.
And that very
same calculus is apparently behind the Democrats’ remarkable conversion over
the past decade – from being anti-illegal-immigration, and pro-wall. Obama,
Schumer, Hillary, Pelosi, Reid and others were all against illegal immigration
and for the wall before they switched – I have seen various video clips of
them saying as much -- here's one:
https://www.facebook.com/ijrredpresents/videos/151337188899672/?t=1
And here is an article in a very non-conservative periodical (The Atlantic) laying it all out. It’s the political demographics game they are trying to rig, cynically appealing to the demographics for whom they do the least to better their lives, and Trump has done the most.

In the past
decade, liberals have avoided inconvenient truths about the issue.
“How the Democrats Lost
Their Way on Immigration,” The Atlantic, July 2017
Then there is the faux outrage that if the
Democrats won’t compromise, he may use his emergency powers to build the wall? This, after Obama broke
all records on exercising executive orders to circumvent Congress by fiat? And
used emergency powers during the swine flu outbreak? Or FDR’s Japanese
internment camps? No, if the Democrats continue to show intransigence over
border control, including more wall, as they have for decades, the statistics
and threats cited by Trump more than justify a declaration of emergency to
extend and improve the wall. And most real constitutional scholars agree it is
within his powers.
It is not a
negative reflection on Trump or abuse of power, but on the Democrat failure to
serve and protect the people due to their political preoccupations. Both their
self-serving demographic and divisive pandering described in the article above,
as well as their visceral and petty hatred of Trump, and to resist nearly
anything he is for. This is all too obvious watching Schumer attack it as “Trump’s
wall,” or describe his negotiations as “tantrums.” Ignoring the will of the
people who elected him, or the expertise of those on the border, or statistics,
or victims.
No,
for them it’s all about Trump – they think they can break the will of the people
who elected him by dividing them, and subvert the good of the people for their
own self-serving purposes (as they have for decades with minorities). Not going
to happen – we’re not the mindless Kool-Aid drinkers you’re used to pandering
to, Democrat and Leftist intelligentsia.
We need to start
petitioning legislators, protesting, and whatever it takes to make California
safe, or I'm out of here. Enough with the sanctuary state & city laws.
And enough with
the ridiculous opposition to a border wall. Pelosi calls it immoral -- how?
What scripture will she mis-apply this time? Isn't it immoral to make aliens
believe they can illegally enter, thereby endangering lives of them & their
children? And to have them deal with human & drug traffickers? And to endanger the lives of
Americans by criminals, terrorists, drugs & disease, and their livelihoods
and quality of life by impacts on the opioid epidemic, the job market and costs
of welfare, education & health care for illegals? Yes, we should morally treat legal immigrants
as any citizen, but we are not obligated to take in everyone in the world who
wants to come. No country anywhere, at any time, ever allowed that willingly -- only if invaded..

Seven additional men have been arrested in connection with the
murder of Newman, California, Police officer Ronil Singh, for helping suspect
Gustavo Perez Arriaga try to flee into Mexico, authorities say.
5 hours after this photo was
taken on Christmas day, the young legal immigrant California police officer
from Fiji was killed by the illegal immigrant on the right -- enjoying a
6-pack. And we hear of similar stories nearly every week or two – apparently
many others we don’t even hear about. A GAO report said that 25,064 homicides
by illegal immigrants had been committed from 1955 to 2011, or 1.2 per day , and that rate has no doubt increased the last several
years because of the massive increase in illegals, and the generally higher
homicide rate.. Extrapolating that rate to today, that is 7,446 since
9/11 – 2.5 times
the number killed on 9/11 by terrorists. 1,200 total in Texas alone (https://www.foxbusiness.com/…/texas-homicides-by-illegal-im…).
And this illegal apparently was,
as we’ve heard in other such cases, an offender protected by California
sanctuary policies (Kate Steinle, et al). But that causes no alarm by the
Democrats or the Left (increasingly one and the same). They seem to just wink
and nod when ICE or border patrol officers diligently doing their duty, or our
police officers, are threatened, endangered or even assassinated by their
radical elements such as Black Lives Matter. Or when Antifa does its thuggery.
And they see no need for expanding the border wall, which has been shown 95%
effective in at least 2 sectors. To say nothing of all the other crimes and
loss of life that comes of an open border – drug crime & opioid deaths,
human trafficking, costs incurred by illegals (health care, education, welfare,
etc.).
No, they say we can’t afford a
few billion dollars to secure the border. But we can afford more than that for
“cash for clunkers,” or hundreds times that for the wasted money Obama spent on
green energy initiatives. Or even more for disastrous Obamacare and it’s losses,
or the stimulus. They’re penny wise and pound foolish when it comes to what is
only a political statement to spite Trump – that’s more important for them than
doing something that will not only benefit Americans, but also prevent needless
deaths among prospective illegal immigrants by discouraging them from a deadly
trek. And despite the many statements by their leaders in the not distant past
decrying illegal immigration, and supporting building more wall, with some of
it built under their administrations. And Obama using many of the same methods
as Trump – but of course it was OK for Obama.
Here are some recent illegal murderers (some serial), some
that could have been avoided without sanctuary policies:
