Black and Blue
With all the abuse and attacks on police, large numbers of
them are leaving the service. Nice work,
news media, BLM, Democrat politicians, etc. for furthering the anti-police
narrative, generalizing, giving the rioters/protesters more legitimacy, fanning
the flames of racial/police hatred and adding to our nations woes. Good luck recruiting replacements or
maintaining a civil society, not that you care – yet, until it’s too late and
you, too, are affected. And good luck
putting the genie back in the bottle, whatever their short-sighted political
motives. In one recent interview, a news
interviewer asked the activist interviewee how “WE” can maintain the level of unrest.
Perhaps people can now begin to more
clearly see how correct Trump was in calling the media “the enemy of the
people.” Activist/propagandist “journalism,” i.e., “fake news.”
Of course police misconduct, however infrequent, needs to be
addressed, and police unions (allied most with Democrats) who hinder removal of
bad cops (and better training) need to be held responsible, as well as the
Democrat mayors and police chiefs in the worst offending cities. But they try to cast the blame elsewhere –
like on the president, when it’s not even his responsibility, and he’s only
been in office 3 years, but they’ve been in power for generations. Hopefully enough Americans are not that
gullible, to be distracted and misled.
But we also need to maintain perspective: In 2019, 48 officers were killed by gunshot
(including 6 black officers), 10 by other assault. Out of more than 800,000 sworn law
enforcement officers in the U.S. And
2020 officer fatality stats are up 49% over 2019. In the same year (2019), 10 unarmed Blacks
were shot/killed by officers, out of 44 million blacks in the U.S. Doing the math (more detailed statistics and
sources appear at the end), officers are shot and killed at 264 times the
relative frequency of unarmed black shootings by police, 321 times for all
police killings (including vehicular/other assaults).
So if unarmed Black lives matter, do police lives matter 300
times less? Do they not deserve as much
attention and respect? They are killed
while doing their lawful duty to protect us all – the “thin blue line” between
anarchy and peace. Most of the Blacks
killed that I’m aware of were resisting arrest, which itself is illegal, and
often indicative that they were, indeed, being arrested for other illegal
activity – i.e., not innocent. You can
almost guarantee you won’t be killed by police if you first, don’t engage in
illegal activity, and second, don’t resist arrest, attack them, grab their
weapons and point them at them, etc.
This is true for people of all races.
And if police can’t use any force or restraint for fear of
escalation, then why stop people for law-breaking (drunk driving, speeding,
crimes,…)? Then there’s no law
enforcement, and more scofflaws and deaths – laws have no meaning. Of course that suits BLM, Antifa, gangs and
other anarchists and criminals just fine.
They want to eliminate police entirely.
And you think Chicago is bad now, or recent riots bad?
.
Here are the raw data and sources for the foregoing:
·
There are more than 800,000 sworn
law enforcement officers now serving in the United States, which is the highest
figure ever. About 12
percent of those are female.
·
Crime fighting has taken its toll. Since the first recorded
police death in 1786, there have been more than 22,000 law
enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Currently, there are 22,217 names engraved
on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
·
A total of 1,627 law
enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past 10 years, an
average of one death every 54 hours
or 163 per
year. There were 135 law
enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2019.
According to statistics reported to the FBI, 89
law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2019. Of
these, 48 officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 41 officers died in
accidents. https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/fbi-releases-2019-statistics-on-law-enforcement-officers-killed-in-the-line-of-duty
2019: 48 by gunshot (6 black officers), 10 by other assault
(vehicular, beating/knife) – 58 total attacks (0.000073), and 2020 officer
fatality stats are up 49% over 2019.
2018: 53 shot, 2 beaten, 14 struck by vehicle (some
intentional?), 31 killed in car crash
48/800,000 ~ 0.00006, 10 unarmed blacks killed by police in
2019, 10/(13.4%* 328M)= 10/44M= 2.3x10^-7= 0.00000023
The ratio is 264 times the frequency of police shooting to
unarmed black shootings, 321 times all police killings (vehicular/other
assaults).
